As he would not have been born by the last UK census (1911), the only way to find out what job he did and who his father was would be to buy the marriage cert as explained before.

Kathleen travelled out to Canada with 4 of the children,but Alexander wasn't with her and I haven't been able to pin down the right one to confirm if he went before or after her....or at all  ;)

Thanks for that do you know if there a way I can find out what part of Canada my dad was born in ?

I do know that each province has it's own records,some are more available to the public than others.

I see that his DOB was 3rd October 1957,so I think it may be too recent to be online.

On the passenger list when your grandma went out to Canada,she travelled on 15th Nov 1956 out to Montreal,and had intended to live in Canada,but clearly she didn't if everyone returned to Thanet at some stage.
