Sorry I wrote the wrong info on Wills.  It should have been Index to Estate registers.
Thanks
george165

Queensland Archives have indexes to Estate Registers 22/3/1870 to 18/1/1917.  These are indexes to files relating to the management of estates of residents at Dunwich Benevolent Asylum.

http://www.archivessearch.qld.gov.au/Search/SeriesDetails.aspx?SeriesId=9640

"This series indexes files providing details of the general care, protection and management of the estates of residents at the Dunwich Benevolent Society. Under the Charitable Institutions Management Act of 1885, these powers were conferred on the Curator in Insanity.

Most of the files indexed by this series have been destroyed, although some files have been transferred to other series including Intestacy Files.

Details recorded may vary but can include year, number, name, date of admission and if file destroyed."

For records later than the above dates I think you will need to consult these two series:

http://www.archivessearch.qld.gov.au/Search/SeriesDetails.aspx?SeriesId=20333
http://www.archivessearch.qld.gov.au/Search/SeriesDetails.aspx?SeriesId=20334

You will need to go there in person to search the files or contact the Archives for assistance.

Hi Sue and Debra
Thanks for your replies. I sent away for a will for 1921 but received Supreme Court documents to say that he was intestate. Not a will. The person I am after died 1920 at Dunwich.  I do not know if this person is my Great Grandfather but his wife's son-in-law made a will out in Feb 1921 saying in it that mother-in-law was a widow. I did not get a death certificate as I had his death details from State Archives.  I thought if I obtained a will there would be a death certificate contained in the will.  I will keep at it.

Hi
Thanks for the clarification.

Can't help much without names and particulars of your people to work with, but Debra, as always, has offered useful tips.

Best of luck for now.

Sue
