Lazarus, the son of Owen Williams, & Margaret Hughes was born 5 Mar 1886, Llandegfan.

He had siblings as follows, all registered as children of Owen Williams & Margaret Hughes:
Annie - 2 Apr 1895 - Llanfair P G
Margaret Ellen - 29 Oct 1888 - Llanfair P G
Owen Griffith - 15 Mar 1891 - Llanfair P G
Richard - 5 May 1893 - Llanfair P G
Mary - 15 Dec 1898 - Llandysilio
and perhaps Catherine - 30 Apr 1884 - Llandegfan.

Margaret Williams (widow) and her children (not Catherine) are living at 16 Well St, Menai Bridge, Llandysilio in 1901.

Owen Williams' death was registered 16 Aug 1900 at Well St., Menai Bridge, Llandysilio, age 46, occupation rabbit catcher. Informant Kate Williams, daughter.

I cannot find the marriage of Owen Williams and Margaret Hughes among Anglesey marriages. FreeBMD has a marriage Conway 11b 741 Jun 1886 which may be them.

Hi DragonT
Thank you for speedy response.
I am one of Catherine Williams' grandchildren.
She married William Jones.
She had 12  grandchildren of whom 2 did not survive infancy, 1 died at the age of 14, 1 died aged 74 and all others (8) are still alive.
When Catherine married in 1910 she was registered as living at 16 Well Street , Menai Bridge.
Did Lazurus Williams also have a son David ,born in c.1878?
Any further information or even questions would be appreciated.
Paul Jones

Judging by a newspaper article of 1910, he and Mary set up residence in Beach Road

Hello Mabel
I am fascinated by the way responses appear on this website.
Having clarified my links with Lazarus Williams as my grandmother's ( Catherine (- probably Kate) Williams' brother  , do you have any information about Owen Williams' (b1855 d1912) ancestry?
Thank you
Paul Jones

Did Lazurus Williams also have a son David ,born in c.1878?

Hi Paul,

David's birth was registered as 23 Sep 1878 at Llanbedrgoch, son of Owen Williams & Margaret Hughes, so brother of Lazarus Williams, which I think is what you meant.
In the 1881 census Owen Williams (25, ag. labourer, b. Llandegfan), Margaret (22, b. Llanbedrgoch) and David (2, b. Llanbedrgoch) are at Pen y Maen, Llandegfan.

I think I have found Owen's parents and siblings but there is a complication as the family name in some of the earlier records was recorded as Jones rather than Williams.

There is a baptism recorded in Llandegfan parish records for Owen son of David and Margaret Williams on 20 May 1855. David is a labourer, the abode looks like Twllcaccwn(?) and the surname Williams replaces Jones, which has been crossed out but is clearly visible.

There does not seem to be a birth registration for Owen son of David Williams but I found:
23 Apr 1855 Owen son of David Jones & Margaret Owen, Llandegfan.

In the 1861 census there is a family as shown below at Twr y felin, Llandegfan (RG9, 4348, 37,19):
David Jones, 29, Labourer, b. Llangoed, Anglesey
Margaret - , 28, b. Llandegfan, Anglesey
Owen - , 6, b. Llandegfan, Anglesey
Margaret - , 5, b. Llandegfan, Anglesey
Catherine - , 3, b. Llandegfan, Anglesey
David -, 1, b. Llandegfan, Anglesey
John - , 2 months, b. Llandegfan, Anglesey

The births of Owen's siblings were registered as follows:
Margaret, 24 Jun 1856, dau of David Jones & Margaret Owen, Llandegfan
Catherine, 30 Jan 1858, dau of David Williams & Margaret Owen, Llandegfan
David, 27 Jun 1859, son of David Williams & Margaret Owen, Llandegfan
John, 20 Feb 1861, son of David Williams & Margaret Owen, Llandegfan

As proof that this is the same family throughout, in the 1871 census, also at Twr y felin, Llandegfan there are the following (RG10, 5726, 2, 4):
David Williams, 40, Labourer, b. Llangoed, Anglesey
Margaret Williams, 39 b. Llandegfan
Catherine Williams, 13
David Williams,12
John Williams, 10
plus younger children William,8, Grace,5, Ellen,3, Mary 6mo, all born Llandegfan.

I had assumed that David (b. ca. 1832) was the son of John Williams (or William Jones) and that the alternate surname is patronymic. But the marriage of David Williams and Margaret Owen(s) shows David's father as Richard Williams, disproving this.

25 Dec 1854 at Llandegfan Church - David Williams, full age, bachelor, labourer of Eirianell, Llangoed, son of Richard Williams, labourer married Margaret Owens, full age, spinster of Twll
Cacwn (!), Llandegfan, dau of Owen Owens, labourer.

Hope this helps
