looking for James Sutcliffe pre 1861
« on: Tuesday 07 April 15 16:39 BST (UK) »
Hello Could you help? I'm looking for James Sutcliffe born 1823 in Bradford. I can't pick him up any earlier than than the 1861 census where he is living in Tong with his wife Maria. I know nothing of his family i'm afraid.
   James Sutcliffe aged 38
       Born appx   1823
1861 census shows him as the head of the house
wife Maria Sutcliffe nee Gomersal
born:   Bradford, Yorkshire, England
Civil Parish:   Bradford
Ecclesiastical parish:   St Peter

Occupation: Stone Mason

Other household Members were

Maria Sutcliffe   32
Fanny Sutcliffe   6
Clara Sutcliffe   4
Robinson Sutcliffe   2
Joseph Sutcliffe   9/12

There is no marriage record for James & Maria although i know she is Maria Gomersal/Gummersal from Tong. I have posted a previous question about her here. http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=709635.msg5544364#msg5544364

Hope you can help

Have you any references to the 1861 census info given earlier?
Looking at the complete records for Tong as I write, 1841 census onwards.
All BMD records for Tong being checked also.

Thank you :0)
Could you shed light on this one? http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=709635.msg5544364#msg5544364   Do you know if there was a problem with the baptism register around that time? It seems so odd that she would not have been baptised.

Of no interest but i love the fact that 144 years later i was baptised at the same church as my ancestors! ;-)
