Latin help
« on: Sunday 19 April 15 12:40 BST (UK) »
Please can someone help with the attached Burial Record.
I'm thinking the name is Guilemuy Nicholas being latin for William?
I cannot make anything of the word after Nicholas (dochia is it?).

Any help much appreciated.

the writing is not entirely clear, but:

January 24th Gulielmus Nicholas p[ar]ochiae de [         ] sep[ultus] fuit

William Nicholas of the parish of [         ] was buried

From previous postings, I think the parish is Lansoy.

Hi both,
yes the parish is Llansoy in Monmouthshire.
I can see 'pochia' now, I guess the curate had his own shorthand.

Thanks very much
