Whatever happened to John Killingworth?
« on: Monday 20 April 15 14:02 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find the death date of my 4x great grandfather John Killingworth.

According to censuses, he was born around 1815 in Denton, Huntingdonshire.

He married Ann Moysor on October 12, 1843 in Oundle, Northamptonshire.

They appear in the 1851 and 1861 census living in Denton.

They had the following children; John, Alline, Robert, Mary Ann, Henry, Sarah and Elizabeth.

In the 1871 census, Ann is living in Denton as a widow, meaning John died sometime between 1861 and 1871.

I have been unable to find a death record for John between those dates. I think it's likely he died in Denton, but of course I shouldn't just assume that.

I have been mostly using Ancestry and FamilySearch to look for records.

Thanks, Milliepede. I've actually had that index record attached to John's son, also called John Killingworth, for about 2 years now. It's never occurred to me that it is equally as likely to be the death of the father! I'll order the certificate and see what it says. Thank you!

Hopefully it's one or the other of yours and not somebody else!  Good luck  :)

The son seems to have been registered at birth as John Thomas Killingworth (Dec qtr 1844 Peterborough).  There are possible marriages in that name in Dec qtr 1870 (Oundle) and Mar qtr 1889 (Peterborough).

Thanks, avm228. I've now found the son John Thomas Killingsworth in census records all the way up to 1911! The 1861 death record for the father now looks a lot more likely  :)
