Julia and Violet Coad emigrated to Quebec
« on: Tuesday 28 April 15 23:38 BST (UK) »
I need help to find this family in Canada.
FindMyPast has Violet Coad born abt 1904 leaving her home in Lanner Moor, Redruth, Cornwall, England and heading to Quebec in 1929.  She was a domestic age 25.
FindMyPast has Julia Coad born abt 1883 also leaving Lanner Moor and heading towards Montreal in 1927 age 43.
I have found them both in the 1911 census in Cornwall.England and although Julia was married there was no sign of her husband Richard Henry Coad and she was living with her daughter Violet..
On Ellis Island I found Richard H Coad address Lanner, emigrating to the USA in 1910.
I would like to know what happened to them if possible.

A book called Unravelling the Code by Joe Flood makes mention of Richard Henry Coad.
The author states that Richard married Julia Richards in 1904, went to Michigan as a coal miner in 1910 and became a naturalized US citizen in 1921. At some point he returned to Redruth where he had three more daughters, then returned to Michigan.  There is more information given about Richard in this book.  I don't know how reliable it may be but it is well worth a look.

The 1940 US Census has Richard Coad (age 59) living in Michigan with wife Jannie ??? (56) and daughter Violet M. (age 34.)  A grandson is also mentioned - possibly the same grandson alluded to in the book mentioned above.

Thank-you so much for this information LindaGW and CB53  :)
I aren't sure why Canada came into it.
Interesting about the grandson. Now to find the 3 daughters.
