Elizabeth Wainman
« on: Thursday 30 April 15 20:19 BST (UK) »
Elizabeth Wainman married John Swinden in 1753 in Silkstone.
I have a possible baptism (the only Elizabeth Wainman I can find in Silkstone) in 1727. No father's name is given and no mother's name either.
I found the baptism of James Wainman in 1728/29 and there are no parents' names given for him either.

Is there anyway someone could check the original image to verify that no parent names were given?

Thanks,
Betty

Hi

Have checked the registers on Anc* , there are no parents listed just daughter / son of MR WAINMAN, Silkstone. Most of the other childrens baptisms that are in the register do list the fathers full name.

I wonder if Elizabeth Wainmans father was part of the Gentry and used the title 'Mr' to show his standing in the community.

Because there are only two Wainman children baptised, I searched for Wainman burials to see if there were any possibilities for a mother and father but there were no burials for any Wainmans at all.  :-\

I thought, seeing as Elizabeth was married there, that the family stayed in Silkstone but it seems unlikely now. I can't even see a burial or marriage for James!

Still searching....

Hi

It would seem that the WAINMAN family were wealthy landowners but in and around Bradford

But I still can't think why they would baptise two of their children in Silkstone

Hi

On the marriage record of Elizabeth and John Swinden it does state they were both of the parish of THRIBER (  Thrybergh, Rotherham ) which is about 20 miles away from Silkstone.

The marriage was also by licence, maybe that would hold some clues.

A licence could point to a wealthy family - they cost money and were often used to show status and to avoid having banns read
