Lookup please John DARLING born before abt 1650

John DARLING of Culham married Elizabeth KING of Dorchester OXF at Dorchester in 1664.  There's a possibility this couple might be my "missing link" so I'm trying to establish their birthplaces.

Culham is on the IGI but the earliest IGI baps seem to be 1721.  Could someone do a lookup of Culham PRs/BTs please to see if there are any
DAR(E)L(E)IN(G)/DALLIN(G)/DAULIN(G)/DURLIN(G) or similar baps?  I understand that Culham baps don't start till 1648, which is probably too late for my John but might pick up siblings.  If none I'll widen the search to contiguous parishes.

Hi Jane,

The transcripts of Culham I have from the OFHS on CD OXF-ABO1 only start at 1648 as you rightly say, but unfortunately,  no "Darlings" of any variants  listed in the index.

I know the OFHS have a very good search facility and they may be able to undertake a search at very reasonable cost.

I did have some "Darlings" in Hanney but they only start to appear in the 1700s.

Thanks Alan, I've used the OXFHS search service in the past and as you say they're very good.  If it was just one CD I was looking at I'd splash out £17.50 on it but as the contiguous parishes span four the paid lookup service is almost certainly more cost-effective.

How early do DARLINGs start appearing in Hanney?  The earliest date I have is 1744 from a record office visit many years ago, when I was still in civil registration territory and the 1700s would have seemed like the Dark Ages.  With hindsight I'm surprised I noted it at all!
