bapt. l/up Jane Hicks about1640ish Charlbury

Hi all,
I have a Jane Hicks who married Robert Wilder (of Garford, Berks)  in Hinton Waldrist, Berks in 1667 and have just noticed that Jane was "of Charlsbury [sic]".

If possible could sks please do look up for me for her baptism if it should be there.

Still chipping away at these rellies then, such good fun and so addictive isn't it?

I have the CD for St Mary's Church, Charlbury but don't see a baptism for Jane Hicks - the closest is a baptism for a Rebecca d o Richard on 21 Nov 1648 just in case that name pops up some where for you? There are very few Hicks/Hix/ Hickes in the baptisms for St Mary's.

Yep - first started in 1973 - a few years ago now.

Thanks for your help. I can only presume that Jane was living/working there at the time.

Charlbury seems an awful distance away from Hinton or Garford so wonder if the entry is correct.
I'll persevere.

Could she have been a widow and the marriage you have is a 2nd - any clues in what you have already?
 I do not have the PR's for Garford, those not with in the Marcham PR's - there are a few - are not on an OFHS CD they are still in the county archive for Royal Berkshire at Reading - must get over there some time as I have several connections to Garford.

If come up with any other clue that takes you back to Charlbury give me a shout

Im on holiday but I do have the fiche for Charlbury parish registers at home & have been through them searching for my own ancestors (Gomm) & feel sure that I would have noticed an entry for Hicks or any variant as my surname is Heeks  .  I wonder if its worth you getting in touch with OFHS search services as they may find it for you but there would be a charge involved & I cant remember of the top of my head what it is.

I just had a look at OXSIL but there are no entries for anyone researching the name Hicks (I didn't look at the varients) in OXF

ps if you ever put any Heeks of WOR on your tree then its worth getting in touch with me as I have my fair share but its a long walk from OXF to WOR so I wont hold my breath

Sorry for the delay in replying but have been busy decorating!!.

The only info I have is what I listed in my initial posting.

The thought of her being a widow did occur to me but have nothing to go on.

Garford registers have not been transcribed by either the OFHS or the Berks FHS and the originals only start in 1733 (Bapts.) 1839 (marrs) and nil registers for burials and these are in the BRO although they are on the IGI for the same years.
