Keenan in County Sligo Ireland
« on: Thursday 07 May 15 22:16 BST (UK) »
Grandad John Keenan  born 9 - 2 - 1880   Gallows Hill South Sligo Co. SLIGO  married a Catherine Hannah McGuire 1903 In Stanley Catholic Church , Co .Durham England
Any information  how , why, when,  he came to North East England

I think his parents are Thomas Keenan and Sarah or Sara  Shannon. Dates I've got are Thomas born 1832 ? Sarah 1839 ? Married 4- 2 - 1861 Pound Street. Witnesses Patrick Finan and Bridget Farrell.

 It's possible he had brothers Thomas b.1864 , 1866, 1873 why so many dates ? .
 Joseph 1868.
Michael Francis 1887
then granddad  1880.
sisters
Sarah Ann 1871
 and Mary 1875.
So any information on them , if anyone has any of them in their tree's please.

Since birth registration started in 1864 there could be other children born 1861-1863. It was not uncommon to give a baby the same name as a deceased sibling as in this case where the first 2 Thomases died.

Have added in a few notes on possible deaths to my first post.

Grandad John Keenan  born 9 - 2 - 1880   Gallows Hill South Sligo Co. SLIGO  married a Catherine Hannah McGuire 1903 In Stanley Catholic Church , Co .Durham England
Any information  how , why, when,  he came to North East England

When- Ireland was part of the U.K. so no records were kept of travel between Ireland and England, Scotland, Wales. You can perhaps narrow down the date of arrival by births of children, marriage and English census records.

Why- probably for employment

How- possible across Ireland by train to Dublin or Belfast and then ferry to England
