I have done extensive searches for the "biological" father M.V Barnes but I have found no record of him.

I think he was made up to cover the fact that she was illegitimate and her real father is the man who later married her mum.

Could it be Mountain Road, Mount Wellington, Auckland, or does the street just no longer exist?

Is a "father's" name shown on the birth certificate?

There is a Dorothy May Barnes born in 1898 in Dunedin, New Zealand with mother Agnes and father Henry William? But await the original poster's reply as to who her parents are? And another in Nelson in 1901 to parents Emma Bessie and Alfred William.

Looks like burial at Anderson's Bay, Dunedin, NZ and born about 1893.  Died 14 April 1940, Dunedin. Married. Native of England. Husband Robert Milligan.

This must be the immigration record:

I realise you may have all this, but just trying to work it out.

Hi

The 1919 marriage certificate for Dorothy May Barnes would name her father which would help identify her birth.

This was reported in a number of NZ newspapers in 1922:
http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bin/paperspast?a=d&cl=search&d=AS19220726.2.42&srpos=5&e=-------10--1----0%22robert++milligan%22--

I see Robert  Milligan was born in Dunedin in 1894 and died in Auckland, NZ in 1968:
http://waitakere.govt.nz/cnlser/cm/cemeterysearch/cemeterydetails.aspx?id=84760

Still wondering about the original question and whether the street could actually be in Auckland re Reply#10?  Otherwise wondering what the connection to Wellington would be, which makes it seem more likely perhaps Robert was her father. Not sure otherwise what English, London-born? Dorothy's connection would be to NZ at that stage.

And what her maiden name definitely is? Tried to look on Free BMD, but lots of Dorothy May's  born in London around 1892-1894.  No Dorothy May Barnes.  Two Dorothy Barnes. Looked at the NZ births in case the born in London, England bit was falsely given by an informant.

Unfortunately the 1919 marriage isn't on the London England Marriages and Banns 1754 - 1921, so agree re the certificate for finding out her father who is. Hopefully it is listed.
