need to find a Clancy ; County Corke g-g-grandfather
« on: Friday 08 July 05 00:28 BST (UK) »

I need some help looking for a Clancy. I am looking for my g-g-grandfather, Peader (Patrick) Clancy. He had, at least,  2 sons, Matthew ( my g-grandfather)  and Patrick who eventually immigrated to Pittsburgh, PA in 1925.  I have alot of "stories" on this person including he fought with Micheal Collins; he was only known as Captain; he was part of the The Irish Volunteers ( Oglaigh na b Eireann) ,Southern Brigade; he was executed as a result of either the Easter Rising of 1916 or Bloody Sunday 1920.

He lived in County Cork. I could use some facts on his family; siblings, other children, parents, etc.

Thank You for your time. Any clues would be extremely helpful.

Thanks, caclancy ;D

Just wanted to say a HUGE thank for taking the time to give me some clues/hints. Keep me in mind if you ever need any help and let me know if I can. I have a list of names posted so I might have something you need. I also love to chat about history, books ,almost anything except recent politics. Everyone in family, I have learned, always fights when that topic comes up. ::) ;D
Have a good week and thanks again.

Just a thought here.  I hope I don't add to any confusion. You indicated your ggg grandfather's name was Peadar and then, parenthically, Patrick. Peadar is the Irish for Peter not Patrick!

Hi Pat,
First, thanks for the info. My Gaelic is not my strongest trait. I am trying to teach myself but man, it's hard to do alone.
Second, I guess I should have figured that out myself but I just started this huge task i gave myself.
Third, my family, for some reason, will not talk about the past unless they are drinking their whiskey and beer so when they start talking I get different names for my g-g-grandfather. So I thank you for that little fact that will actually end up to help me go in the right direction! ;D

Any more tips on Irish names, etc, BRING THEM ON!!!  LOL!

Thanks again,
caclancy

Hi there.
caclancy here again.
just a few sidenotes to add.
My g-g-grandfather's name is in question. It's either Patrick or Peter. Someone kindly pointed that out to me.
Also besides sons Matthew and Patrick there was also John Clancy who lived in Galway,Ireland. I think he lived out his life there and his family might still live there. I have to do some more digging on that.

Thanks to everyone out there.

May love and laughter light your days,
and warm your heart and home.
May good and faithful friends be yours,
wherever you may roam.
May peace and plenty bless your world
with joy that long endures.
May all life's passing seasons
bring the best to you and yours!
