William Edward Cule
« on: Tuesday 12 May 15 05:06 BST (UK) »
Hello
I'm seeking the date of birth of the writer William Edward Cule, born 1870 in the villiage of St. Nicholas (near Cardiff). I wish to use this in the Wikipedia  entry on him at:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W._E._Cule

Any help much appreciated.

Hi,
Is this him in the  20th January 1871 edition of Seren Cymru  ?
http://papuraunewyddcymru.llgc.org.uk/en/page/view/3198996/ART28/cule
If it is, his birth date is 5th  December 1870, and  they just registered him in that first  quarter of 1871
Translation: Births
Dec 5 MR Thomas Cule, St Nicholas ,Cardiff , a son, who is called William Edward

If he was a Baptist ,like many people in Wales were, you will not find a baptism in 71( Baptists don't usually baptise young children and babies.
Hope that helps
Kind Regards:)
PS there are quite a few articles on the Cule family in the old papers that may interest you at the above  welsh newspapers online( if you haven't seen them already)

Yes, that's him and thank you very much for your help. Cule wrote many entertaining stories about Public School life and one thing I would like to know is where he was educated.

Kind regards

Hi,
Cardiff Proprietary School?

Maybe him or not ,the dates are about right. You would need to research it further, there are quite a few papers on that site. You may get lucky and one will list the Christian name, or at least the initial along with the surname

I  really think it's really matter of searching as many papers as you can. Many papers at the time published local schoolchildren winning prizes, choirs etc. . It's amazing how many people's ancestors are in the papers.
I have many  listed in the papers as children at their schools and they were just ordinary folk,  some stealing a duck or two along their way ;D

Kind Regards :)

Hi

Thanks for the suggestions. I've found a number of useful items on Cule in the Welsh newspapers but nothing yet concerning his schooling. Will keep looking!

Kind wishes

Philip
