That would indicate eight years of primary education - pretty standard for the time.  But, since she was a patient in a psychiatric hospital in 1940, the information may have been supplied by a staff member and may not have been accurate.  Is similar information given for other patients or does the information appear to be individualized?

I think I believe what is on the census, at least it didnt seem far fetched... It varies from a 2 to C-4...

Yes, an 8 seemed standard to me as well.

May be a bit OT, but I still recall the campaign to keep Christ Church (AKA "The House"), Oxford, male only. The slogan was "A woman's place is in the home, not the House."

I see a Mary and Elizabeth HAVEY  in Dublin on 1911 census.
