Baptism or newspaper article on birth - Hilda Charlotte Craven
« on: Tuesday 12 May 15 23:43 BST (UK) »
Wondering if anyone can assist me in locating a baptism record and/or a newspaper article on the birth of Hilda Charlotte Craven please?

It is said she was born 16 May 1877 at Upper Slaughter, Stow-on-theWold, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England and my hope is to find some record that evidences this date or some other date. ???

Hilda's parents were Fulwar John Colquitt Craven and Sarah Llewelyn Craven.

Thanks so much to you and to Victor.

Hi Westy,
Well, tillyc seems to have solved the answer to your post.
I had already visited the local Library to check the A******y website, but Hilda was NOT listed on that site, and it was my intention to check the St Peter, Upper Slaughter baptism records tomorrow morning.
Meanwhile I had found the following baptisms for Hilda's siblings, f. Fulwar John Colquitt CRAVEN & m. Sarah Llewellyn CRAVEN at St Andrew, Sevenhampton:-
19/12/1873, Lewis Fulwar John CRAVEN
01/06/1876, Arabel Laura CRAVEN
13/12/1881, Nigel Fulwar de la Beche CRAVEN
I shall still be in Glos Archives (GA) tomorrow morning, so if I can still be of any help, do let me know today.

It may be worth emphasising here that the parish registers on Ancestry are subject to the same transcription problems as the other records there, so inventive searching may be needed. Tillyc has given the correct transcription for the baptism of Hilda Charlotte Craven, but Ancestry has:

'Hilda Charlette, parents Fridrick John Colguits and Sarah Dewelya Gaven'

Especially with smaller parishes such as Upper Slaughter I am inclined to ignore the transcription and look through the register page by page. Alternatively, enter nothing except the parish name and a year (or year range), then look carefully at the transcriptions.
