Max Limit on Personal Messages?

Hi,
    It seems a bit daft after being a member for five years to be posting in the How To Use RootsChat Board but I'm having trouble with the PM system that now I need to use a lot.

In the last few weeks I have been blithely sending and receiving PM's not realising that though the number of PM's I have has remained rising steadily (to a peak of 137) I can no longer access the early ones from 2010/2011, even if I delete a few more recent ones. They seem to have been lost to the Bit Bucket.

The Help page suggests there is no limit but unless something has gone wrong, this clearly is not so. What is the limit please ? . . . and knowing how it is defined would be useful to know too.

I'd also like to suggest that there ought to be a limit warning mechanism and that it is a pity that the Print routine for normal threads is not available for PM conversations.

Hi Alanmack,

Sorry to hear your having a problem. Just cleared my own e-mails today and I also had well in excess of hundred but the early ones from 2010 are still there - just had a re-read of the help pages and it does say "In general, there is no limit to the number of PMs you may send or receive"
Could it be possible you could you have accidentally deleted the earlier ones in error, it just seems strange

There isn't a limit so I've used the r2m button for more technical assistance from Trystan

Hi Sandra,
               No there's no possibility that I deleted them myself by accident. I think the size of the PM's I've been receiving rather than the number has pushed the older ones over the edge into binary oblivion. Hence my query of the criterion applied.

I assume you can print them by highlighting then using Control C to copy and paste it into a Word document with Control V.    The mouse right click might work if that doesn't.    Worth a try.

I'm not sure if this is the same problem, but I seem to remember we had some similar issues a while ago and someone said that when this was set (in the profile, under "Personal Messages"), the problem went away:

Show most recent personal messages at top. X

If you don't have this set, it might be worth trying it out.

And perhaps also the other display types.

I'm on my mobile at the moment, but just to quickly confirm - the are no limits on the number of Personal Messages.

Updated: just looked, I have thousands of PMs, and can see them going back to 2004.

I'll add it to Monday's schedule of checks. There may have been a blip.

Thank you for that. From your comment possibly it is something that's gone wrong after all.

Bob, My settings have long been just as you suggested.

Sillgen, yes I regularly cut and paste from clipboard to Notepad and Wordpad equivalents but never, ever Word! I also use the snipping tool for a screenshot as the occasion demands but would love the efficiency of the Print routine from the normal threads on PM conversations, usually to PDF.

I've ran a few database checks, there were a dozen or so PMs that were marked as deleted, but I've restored them.

To go to the beginning of your PMs to the earliest date use this:
