Edward ELLIS
« on: Friday 15 May 15 23:23 BST (UK) »
I am looking for Edward Ellis's Father and Mother. St Andrew Ilketshall Suffolk is where he stated on his census he was born ( 1790 ). Maybe he was registered in Lowestoft or Ipswich Suffolk.

Any help would be fantastic.

Thank you,
Charles Ellis

Welcome to Rootschat.
There is an Edward Ellis DOB 18/6/1793 BAP 20/6/1793 born Lowestoft-Father Edward Mother Frances Wales. This is on FreeREG. There is also a death for an Edward Ellis aged 68 years Buried 5/9/1861 Lowestoft whose Widow was Anne Elizabeth. This may be your ancestor, but you will need to do some more checks.
regards.

There will not be a birth certificate; civil registration did not start until 1837.

When did Edward marry?  You might find a family member shown as witness or, if of some standing in the parish, he might be noted as "son of......".

Have you looked at 1841/1851 census records for elderly parents living with Edward or nearby?

Edward married Mary Thurlow 1814 in Alburgh Norfolk. I have census from 1841,51,61,71,81, probate records with his son In-law and son Samuel as executors and the death record that states his burial in St John Ilketshall Suffolk. I have all his children and baptism records from 1814 to 1840. And most of the children's records.

I have found on other of my trees grandson visiting the grandfather on a census and that was the only hint to moving forward, so yes that can happen, not with Edward thou.

So far 2 years looking and no indication of who his parents are!

Charles

Taken from a transcript of Ilketshall St Andrew parish register.

Edward s/o Thomas and Rebecca Ellis (late Bird) baptised 14th February 1790

Ilketshall St Margaret (from transcript):

James s/o Thomas and Rebecca Ellis, date unclear, 1793 (had relief)
Jane d/o Thomas and Rebecca Ellis mn Bird, born 27th June, baptised 1st July 1798
Robert s/o Thomas and Rebecca Ellis born 24th Dec 1800, baptised 11th Jan 1801

John s/o Thomas and Rebecca Ellis, mn Bird, buried 25th May 1794 aged 12 years (had relief)

I checked all the Ilketshalls, the South Elmhams, Bungay, Shipmeadow, Barsham and Ringsfield for a marriage c.1782 and any baptisms in the intervening years but couldn't see anything useful.

Thank you annes! Appreciate your help.

I have two questions. 1. What site/program did you use, so i can look this up? 2. In brackets (had relief) what does that mean?

I am currently using ancestry.ca

Thank,
Charles
