Marriage Look up for Oxford Q3 1951
« on: Thursday 21 May 15 19:44 BST (UK) »
Would someone mind looking up a marriage entry for JM B and MJ A in Oxford during Qtr3 in 1951. I'm hoping the bride's father was A B and I'm trying to find what his occupation is recorded as.

Cheers

I may be wrong but as far as I'm aware, entries as modern as 1951 are not available to view online.  I'm sure someone will prove me wrong  :-*
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

I'm pretty sure that you are right, BumbleB. The only way to see this would be to send for the certificate from the GRO.

Thanks for that, I wasn't sure if they'd be viewable from the records office.

I can see why but it doesn't make life easy when the record offices only open while I'm at work and as I don't get to the Leicestershire Office as much as I'd like so I have absolutely no chance of getting to Oxford.

I don't think you can view actual certificates can you, just order them?

Give me 30 minutes and I will look at the PRs I have for Oxford.  Any idea which parish as there are many?

Many thanks Carol.

I'm afraid the marriage was registered as Oxford which I appreciate is a fairly big umbrella. Although it's no guarantee, if it helps one source has her parents marriage at Summertown, another source says Headington. I know they're only a few miles apart but don't know if one is the parish of the other.

Sorry Vic, the '30 minutes' got a bit stretched :(

It occurred to me that my mother was married in 1950 and she's very much alive, so unless you're sure that the bride and groom are deceased their names should not be shown on RootsChat.

I have the Oxford city PRs on CD, as transcribed by Oxfordshire Family History Society.  In the parishes where 1951 is included, this marriage is not shown.  (Some stop in the 1800s, others go up to 1994.)  All I can offer, if it helps, is a list of the parishes where they didn't marry.

The bride's parents married in 1921 at the church of St Michael & All Angels in Summertown, which is part of North Oxford but at that time was in Headington registration district.  Her father Arnold was a machine driller.

I hope some of this is helpful.
