Hi Merlin,

May I please ask, .... Re those Qld ERs were there others (different surnames etc) who enrolled using more than one given name?

Cheers,  JM

Hi JM,

There are very few in the index who have more than one given name. Some only have initials single or double.

The difficult thing here is that this Alfred DEAN/DEANE was in the same area - his obit:

http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/97533795

They have his birth year wrong and he was actually born in 1855.

From the details in his obit I'm not sure if the electoral roll listings would be him?  He was born near Toowoomba and worked at the Hemmant and Oakey meatworks then went out to the Roma/Surat area early 1880's.  It doesn't sound as though he owned any land until after his marriage.

If you haven't already, I would be getting a copy of the original marriage entry for Alfred and Clara so that you have a copy of his signature.

From the Qld Library website:

It is necessary to contact the Presbyterian Church Office for a copy of their original records. Information is provided at a cost of $11 per request.

Hi,

Alfred Deane is proving to be very elusive.  I can only find an Alfred Deane on the 1876.1877 $ 1878 Qld State Electoral Rolls as posted earlier by Merlin.  His address, Westbrook was a famous property near Toowoomba.

There was no Alfred Deane on the 1880-1884 Rolls.

From the Qld Government Gazette, there was outstanding mail at the Brisbane GPO in December 1886 for an Alfred Deane, butcher of Brisbane and in May 1889 for an Alfred Deane of West End in Brisbane.

Hi,
Not sure if you're keeping up with this post but I came across some more information relating to your grandmother and also to Clara Melina. A different last name.  I was researching Una and found some interesting information. I'm also trying to find out information on Diana Joan C Leaver /Joan Diana Cynthia Wise -Darlow (1915-2000). Happy to share any information.

Hi Toomany,
I have not looked at Roots for many months and had no idea that there was in discussion about my mother, gran and Grt gran !
I am aware that Clara was Smith, Burston, Ash and Eeg, I believe I have the answer as to these surnames.
However your message coming from out of the blue is obviously fascinating.

Peter
