Taplin/Taplyn in Taynton Oxfordshire 1660
« on: Monday 25 May 15 09:13 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I recently found a will from 1661 for my relative William Taplin/Taplyn who was living in Taynton. From the will I know he had 2 daughters, a son and a wife however the writing is so difficult to read I can't make out the names.

Would greatly appreciate any input as to the rest of the family and how far back the Taplins lived in the area for.

Many thanks,

Anna Taplin

Hi
From the Oxfordshire Family History Society CD of transcribed parish records of St John The Evangalist Church Taynton the following can be seen:

The name is recorded as TAPLEN, TAPLIN, TAPLYN, TAPLINE,TAPLING, TAPPLYNE

The first baptism is
1566 May (Sunday) 19 BYRCHALL Thomas alias Taplen son of Thomas the Elder

The first marriage is

1579 26 Nov  BYRCHALL alias Taplin Thomas otp
WEMAN  Ales (?) of DUSBURABAT in the diocese of Gloucester

The first burial is

1570  10 July   BYRCHALL alis Taplyn
Mayry wife of Thomas the Elder

Interesting and curious that the family repeatedly used two last names

Hope this helps

I think these may be the baptisms for the children you are searching for but with the introduction of the name Byrchall it may be complicated.

So I have put below all those from 1600 to 1661 for you to think about:

6 Sept 1629 William BURCHALL  s o William

 25 Aug 1632 Elizabeth Taplin  d o William

19 June 1636 John Taplin s o William

14 June 1640 Thomas Taplin s o William

12 March 1642 Joane Taplin d o William

I cant see the marriage of your William so I suspect he married over the boarder in Gloucestershire.

I do see a marriage a Thomas TAPLIN of Taynton at Milcomb, Nr Banbury to Anne Stranke on 3 Aug 1623

That may be of use?

Yes all very useful, thank you. Like you said now with the addition of a new surname it may complicate things.

Thanks for your help.
