A friend of mine has in her possession a glass wine rinser with what looks like a belt with a buckle. Someone says the numbers represents 1946 but she says it is alot older than that. We wondered if it was connected to the forces of some kind.

The Roman numerals equate to 46 (XL = 40, VI = 6).

So, maybe 46th (South Devonshire) Regiment? Active 1741 to 1881.
Or, 46th (Liverpool Welsh) Tank Regiment? Active during WW2.

I think it is probably to do with the 46th regiment of foot - there are some similarities to the regimental badge. http://www.nam.ac.uk/research/famous-units/46th-south-devonshire-regiment-foot
