Hi,

I can see a James Lampard farm labourer age looks like 70 something born East Knoyle.
He is shown as a widower - he is living alone.  Can't find a death for Ellen so wondered if she had left him and taken the children with her.

Sue

This James is in Silton, Dorset - Mere registration district.
I can't see two James of similar age in the area but there are the two deaths I mentioned :-\
Perhaps the death certificates and Gilbert's birth certificate may help with further information.
I have looked through East Knoyle in 1891 but can't see them at all.

Same here with what was found, I tried combinations with Gilbert and then left names out but used birthplace and still no joy

It gets curioser and curioser!  I searched on each member of the family individually as well, including Gilbert, and nothing.  So methinks the surname has been transcribed wrongly, otherwise at least one of the four would come up trumps.  Both Ellen and her husband were from East Knoyle, so it would be odd if when her husband died, Ellen moved away from her extended family.

Ellen is in East Knoyle in 1881 and in 1901 after her husband's death. She doesn't move away.
We have searched by first name, initials and looked for inmates of the workhouse.

If you go through censuses, there are neighbours in East Knoyle in the years 1881-1901. It is difficult to think this family have just been mistrancribed. For whatever reason, they just seem to be omitted.

That could be James calling himself a widower. The death certificates may help.

Hi Heywood, Yeah, I meant moved away temporarily after her husband's death and then returned, but no, that's not the answer.  Omitted?  Yes, I reckon so.

Thank you very much to all who helped in the search, I don't think we are going to find them.

The only possible deaths are after 1891 so moving away doesn't seem to be a reason.

Gilbert's birth and one or other of those deaths may have more clues.

Gilbert was admitted to school in February 1892 in East Knoyle - father James, labourer.
