Well, it appears there was a Margaret LANE who had two illegitimate children.

On 10 Dec 1853 a daughter Emily Lydia with Frederick BROWN.
This I believe is your Emma Lydia LANE.

And on 11 Sep 1862  a son John Horsnell Silvanus LANE with a married man John HORSNELL.

Both were born at Third Creek - between Magill and Norton Summit.

John Lane did marry Margaret Downs - my great great grand parents - September 29 1856 at residence of John Gilmore, Mt Pleasant, South Australia by Rev., Henry Lewer Tuck
All family remained in SA except for eldest son’s family went to NSW Henry’s son J H W Lane my grandfather was an only child who had 6 children
