« on: Sunday 31 May 15 22:54 BST (UK) »
Today I was searching the 1841 Scottish census, when I came across these occupations,
Wife age 83  Occ,  A Hoarrald Woman Wants her Wright.  5 yers . ???

Husband age 83.  Occ.. P.P. Cannetwal at this trall. Weaver. PR Mutt.. ???

Daughter  age 40. Occ,  larn Werder. ???

Cant even imagine what they did for a living ...
Scottish census is full of these weird and wonderful occupations... What a hoot !

I'd think "Iarn Werder" would be Yarn Weaver, or maybe Yarn Carder.
Maybe you could post the snippets, and we'll see if we can make out what their occupations were - looks like quite a puzzle!

Just came across a Scottish death record from 1873 and the deceased's father's occupation is "Birdstuffer." Haven't seen this one before. Think I prefer taxidermist.
