I appreciate that there's no payment to be made to Microsoft, but it's not an entirely free download!  We have two laptops running Win7 and we rely on a pre-paid dongle as we're travelling around Australia.  Two x 3GB would be a huge chunk out of our allowance (9GB costs $180) so we won't be upgrading anytime soon.

Any ideas as to how we could reduce the cost if we did decide to go for Win10?  And could someone tell us where MS say it's free for twelve months from release please?

Nay Mike things are not that bad ::)
I was referring to the fact her laptop will be the last one to be updated to 10. (Assuming no problems)

For the benefit of those who don't qualify for free upgrade.

I've not had a notification yet, I use Windows 8.1.  Perhaps I should shut down my laptop, I don't usually bother, I just close the lid and it goes to sleep until I open the lid again the following morning.

I've not had a notification yet but I don't let Microsoft update anything automatically. ;D  Apparently the update is KB3035583 according to http://www.rootschat.com/links/01fel/ so I suspect you have to wait for it to either download automatically or notify you its available to download.

I'm with KGarrad on this one, I shall be waiting a while before I update.

I've been running W10 on a laptop for sometime now.

No problems.

Maybe now "they" are employing professional developers using "quality" processes,
coz [ for my use ] it works so far.

I don't let Microsoft update anything automatically, although sometimes I get a message that states if I don't update, then the computer will close down and updates will be done automatically.  I've just looked at updates waiting and there were 14, none of them anything to do with Windows 10.  No doubt I'll get a message sooner or later.

Interesting article about how "ready" Windows 10 may be on the 29th July - http://www.rootschat.com/links/01feo/.  I think I'll stand by my usual view of leave it a while before upgrading so they can fix any issues first. ;)

Shame that anyone running Windows 10 Home edition is going to lose the option of choosing whether or not to install updates as soon as they are released. :-\  I know many people do but from Windows 10 onwards anyone with a Home edition will have to whether they like it or not. :-X  Just glad I rebuilt my laptop with a spare Pro edition licence when I first purchased it, at least I will be able to continue choosing when to install updates. ;D
