Bandolier usually issued to mounted soldiers possibly Yeomanry....sure the cap badge will be identified soon 😄

Difficult to make out what the emblem is in the centre of the badge, and the focus is sharper on the soldier.  Worth trying the Great War Forum or British Badge Forum.

Could this be anyone from New Zealand? My first glance at cap badge was a kiwi bird in centre ?

I think this is the Bedfordshire regt, Cross Pattee superimposed on an 8 pointed star over a scroll. Open centre has a stag in it. This may be pre war as the wartime badge had a solid centre with the stag on it.

Thank you John915. I have looked the  Bedfordshire badge up and it is the most likely I think. Can you tell me what the lanyard means? I have been told it may indicate a trade.

Lanyards always cause a little debate over who wore them, many see them and say "ARTILLERY". Not true, many regt's wore them. In fact, every soldier was issued with one but not all wore themon show.

There were however different styles, the one in your photo is the basic utility version. It is about 30 in long and is a large loop, a single length and a small loop.

Worn as shown it will most likely have a clasp knife attached to the small loop and placed in the pocket. It could also be a whistle for an officer.

The artillery version was about 6 ft long and was for firing the gun. It would be woven into a decorative item for wearing on the uniform.
