So the next step will be to get a copy of Charlotte birth cert to ascertain her motnbers maiden name for sure? If it is Fuller then you can proceed with the marriage that Keyboard found. That cert (or parish record) will give fathers names, hopefully, for James and Jane, and then we can look for them in earlier censuseswith their families.

  Trying to work through if Jane Fuller is the one shown on  birth certificate, Kirdford and Chiddingfold are only aprrox 10 miles apart, and the birth of Kathleen Maude Foster 1906 was also in Petworth registration district so their is a feasible link to this Jane somehow!

Very wise choice to obtain that birth certificate , as it looks like Mary Jane was a sister still cannot locate her and Jane in 1881, possible death of a Jane in 1875 Hambledon aged 35?
But looking earlier she could be the Jane Heather b c 1841 Chiddingfold?

Edward William's baptism says father James is a soldier, is that why he's not with them on 1871 and 1881 census

I did not know that Charlotte's mother was in the workhouse, or anything about any siblings. Not saying that there weren't any....   Also, didn't know that James was in the army....

Hi all we have attempted to do is find a Charlotte b c 1863 Chiddingfold,  the one in the Workhouse 1871/81 looks to be her with a mother Jane so looks very likely as her baptism is Father James Mother Jane, what a life these children had, in 1891 Elizabeth Heather aged 12 is an Indoor Pauper in same Workhouse.
