William Connolly VC
« on: Friday 12 June 15 10:17 BST (UK) »
The Liverpool Echo had an article yesterday (12/6/15) looking for descendants of William Connolly VC who is buried in Kirkdale cemetery.  Sadly he died a pauper and is buried with eleven other poor souls. There is no stone on the grave but he is commemorated on a stone in the cemetery which has just been renovated.  He won his VC in the Indian mutiny but had to sell it at some time, probably just to survive.  Evidently he died in the workhouse 31st December 1891?

On behalf of my cousin who is a Connolly whose family lived in Kirkdale, I am hoping some of the experts can find out if this man had siblings?  He wasn't married or had children that we know of so the sibling route is probably the best way to find out if my cousins are related. Any help would much appreciated.

Yes I have the details shown above.  I am trying to find if he had siblings. Haven't really looked at tandem post but my family includes Connolly's hence the request.

Thanks

That 1861 census occupation is "pensioner HEI Compy"

HEI Compy= Honourable East India Company.

Interesting.  He died in the workhouse so perhaps the pension wasn't enough or didn't last all his life?

That's what I was thinking but it does say on the record for his V C died at home I think he was in the workhouse in the 1881 census ?
