Emmigration sources used . see
www.familysearch.com http://www.libertyellisfoundation.org/passenger and
http://www.castlegarden.org     Naturalisation mentioned in census

However until all proven, keep an open mind on Downpatrick in the civil parish of Down as it was also used as a registration district for a much larger territory. as follows DOWNPATRICK, District DOW. (Subdistricts :- Ballynahinch, Clough, Downpatrick, Killough, Killyleagh, Portaferry, Strangford).    Adjacent districts:-Newtownards, Kilkeel, Banbridge, Lisburn .

the surrounding parishes around Down are easy to see on http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~rosdavies/MAPS/CoDownParishes.htm

The first name Hanover, was new to me,  so an article http://www.newstatesman.com/uk-politics/2014/10/what-battle-waterloo-teaches-us-about-europe-today opened my poor history knowledge and explains Queen Victoria if she had been a man was in line with the Kings of Hanover and why somebody would have thought the name worthy as a first name as it was already a street and square name commemorated all over the UK, and as a place 100 miles west of Rochester NY .  However familysearch has over 75 examples of Hanover as a first name including  both sexes.
Hans turns up in Co Down but I am fairly sure is not connected.  However as ‘lanarman’
mentioned the Killyleagh person Hans Stevenson I searched http://www.irishgenealogyhub.com/down/tithe-applotment-books/killyleagh-parish.php#.VoW54kvBEYU and found
Stephenson, Andrew    Townland: Killinchy Woods Year: 1827
Stephenson, Hans    Townland: Derraboy Year: 1827
Stephenson, Isaac    Townland: Lisnaw Year: 1827
Stephenson, James    Townland: Lisnaw Year: 1827
Stephenson, Thomas    Townland: Lisnaw Year: 1827
Stevenson, Hans    Townland: Tullyveery Year: 1827 already queried by Lanarnan
but would need to be of legal age to be named. However it’s the next entry made me stop
Stevenson, John    Townland: Ardigon Year: 1827 perhaps more likely apotential father of Hanover perhaps marrying in Clough where Keowns may have lived ?
Stevenson, Richard    Townland: Tullychin Year: 1827
Stevenson, Thomas    Townland: Mulloch Year: 1827

The obituary for Hanover Stevenson in genealogybank.com was a dead end.

A search of PRONTI turned up no additional information on the Stevensons. Some potential info on John Keown:
Title :    Thomas Pelham, Dublin Castle, to Lord [Downshire
Dates :    22 March 1797
Description : Thomas Pelham, Dublin Castle, to Lord [Downshire] enclosing commissions as lieutenants for Ensigns John Keown, Richard Fetherston, William Johnston and William Frew.

Dates :    5 November 1836
Description : Mortgage for securing £4,500 between William Keown, Mary Keown, William Beers, John Keown and James Hunter for lands at Lisara, Ardmeen, Struell, Commonreagh, Quarterland and Audley's acre, Co. Down.

Title :    Will of John Keown, Tine's Brae, nr. Downpatrick
Dates :    23 April 1875

Rochester NY Directories:
Hanover Stevenson - Various addresses and positions in the City of Rochester; 1874 (earliest) 48 Savannah St-laborer; later, foreman, repairer, and watchman.

The 1875 New York census clearly shows the family of 6 in Rochester, 7th Ward. Interestingly, it shows place of birth for children Mary, Margaret, Robert as Monroe Cty, which couldn't be right given approx. 1873 immigration. https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VTZ1-NYZ
It appears 3 children may have died in Ireland prior to emigration.

Family history tells me that Mary (Maria) Stevenson survived and moved to Brooklyn NY shortly afterward. I'm still looking into leads from there. So far, I've only found a maid on 5th Ave (1880 census) with the correct birth year.

Robert Stevenson did apparently end up in Boston as a shoemaker, dying in 1898 of typhoid fever. Seeking other details. https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NW8S-Y1Q

John Stevenson remained in Rochester until his death Dec 27, 1915. (Rochester Directory)
1875-Carpenter 48 Savannah; 1877-Carpenter Minerva Alley; 1883-Carpenter 16 Market
1885-Carpenter 12 Market - Business Directory shows listing under William Bassett (also Irish immigrant); Residences 99 Savannah, 41 Manhattan, 31 Hamilton;

John Stevenson married Anna M. Kiner (Kiener) of Florida approx. 1892. They had 4 sons, John H. (1896), James F (1898), Robert W (1902), and Howard I. (1904)
http://www.mocavo.com/1910-United-States-Census/126211/004972968/17#row-24
Around John's death the family moved above the carpenter shop on Market St.

The 1878 NYC immigration dates you listed don't make any sense.

It appears to me that the 1880 census actually reads Stevenson but was transcribed as Sorenson. The script is difficult to discern but Sorenson doesn't look right based on how the census taker writes his 'o's.

Pre 1858 Wills and Admons:  KEOWEN, John Esq. Tullymore, Down. Probate 1833. Source: PRONI website. Also Daniel KEOWEN, Tullymore, probate 1776 and 6 KEOWN entries but no John's.

Also 22 John KEOWN's listed in Freeholder Records- many in Tullymore in 1805, etc. All found on the PRONI website.

There are a lot of Rochester newspapers at www.fultonhistory.com.  However, the only mentions I see of Hanover were listing his payments for work done for the city or another government entity.
