Hello Alicia,

And welcome to RootsChat.   ;D

Libraries often have information on local schools.

Is it a specific school you are interested in,  or are you trying to find where a person attended school?

Kazza.

Hi Alicia,
There was a good article  in the Ancestors magazine, May, Issue 21 about 'The Education Revolution'  by Richard Ratcliffe.  I don't know if you can get hold of a copy but you can contact them on ancestors@nationalarchives.gov.uk

Some resources mentioned in the article are,
1.  M.G. Jones, 'The Charity School Movement; (Cambridge University Press 1938) which contains a fairly comprehensive list of SPCK schools (Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge)
2.  The Guildhall Library - Aldermanbury, London EC2P 2EK, phone 020 7332 3803.  They hold records of SPCK schools as does the London Metroploitan Archives, 40 Northampton Rd, London EC1R 0HB phone 020 7332 3820.
3.  County Records Offices also hold records.
4.  National Archives provides an online guide to education records available www.pro.gov.uk/leaflets/Riindex.htm#E
Records of the two national socities can be found in TNA,ED 103 & ED7.  Files on transferring schools belonging to the two church societies to the control of school boards can be found in ED2 & ED21.
Sorry, that was a lot of information, but I hope some of it helps,
Jane
