Hello Shaun :)

Ah yes, I'll buy that marriage certificate that you've found perhaps that could shed some light on some things, I'd be interested in seeing that.

I saw a public tree online somewhere last night but I can't for the life of me remember how i found it but i remember that It said that Mary Ellen Walker was her married name and that her birth name was Mary Ellen Gordon. I wonder if there's any truth in that?

The difference in the spelling of Simmons and Symonds is interesting, that's certainly something that I'll look out for in future records.

All the best,

Scott

Yes there is a tree on Ancestry that I hadn't noticed before. It says that the Romford marriage took place on December 25th 1876, and that Ellen Walker's father was George Gordon. The tree owner seems to have done a lot of research into Thomas's military career.

Just wondering about this birth in Q/e Dec 1888:

SYMONS    Elyne Gordon    Yarmouth    4b   21

I can't find any other record of a person with this name !

Perhaps if I purchased this birth certificate I could see if the fathers name is the same as the name on Louisa's marriage certificate?

It's intriguing but it may be unconnected so there is a risk that you will waste your money. But most of us have done that from time to time.

Yea but I think it'll be worth seeing it regardless really, because if it is something to go by that would be amazing :)

What would I type in to order it, do you know?

Go to https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

I think you have ordered a certificate before so you will be able to log in.

Details are in my earlier email: December quarter 1888, Yarmouth, volume 4b page 21.

Thank you :) I'm going to buy it once I have a chance, I think it'll be worth seeing if the fathers names match up
