Esther Hawkins and son

Abraham's place of birth would be Abersychan

There are a couple of mentions of an Esther Hawkins and Esther Lane in local papers - very much in passing - which suggest she may have for a time been a beerhouse keeper (possibly the Railway Inn, Pontypool)

as Abraham's father is also Abraham, and both appear to have been innkeepers later on, the papers are a little confusing. Esther's Abraham is a licensed victualler at the Three Cranes Hotel, Crane St, Pontypool in 1881, but he may also have been the licensee of the Railway Inn. His father was at times a timber dealer, farmer and either or both was a carpenter

I have had an emali from roots chat saying that Esther Hawkins nee Dixon remarried Abraham Lane in 1861 in Chepstow and in the 1871 census - they are listed at Crane Street Pontypool with George + Charles Dixon Lane and Alfred Dixon Lane - thanks to all for your help - jennie

They also baptised another son Tom Dixon Lane 6th March 1865 Trevethin abode Pontypool Father Abraham occ Publican Mother Esther, unfortunately he was buried 4th January 1866 aged 1 abode High Street, Pontypool.

I want to say a BIG thank you for all your help - I do not know where the Lane family went after the 1881 census - with out you, I did not even know Esther Hawkins nee Dixon had remarried - I am assuming that in the 1871 census the George Lane age 12 was really George Hawkins! - thanks again - jennie
