Restoration - Photograph of William Hunter
« on: Wednesday 24 June 15 21:05 BST (UK) »
This is a photograph of my great-grandfather William Hunter in the Cold Stream Guards.
My grandmother acquired the photograph from her older brother in order to make a copy. She tried to get this restored previously but it wasn't very good. I am asking you all to help me restore this photo as well as anyone can do, so I can surprise my grandmother.

Can anyone help me by restoring this photograph?

Thank you very much for your help in advance.

Tony.

Thanks John! What looks to be the reflection in his eye, is in fact a crease in the original photo, meaning it's actually just white from the paper!

Is there any chance of sharpening the image up a little, for example the collar etc.

Thank you for your help.

I've sharpened it a little; the problem with the collar is a lack of original info due to damage, it could be painted in but then a photo becomes a painting. There are a lot of much more experienced people on this site who will no doubt do a better job, at the risk of alienating myself, you may find a better restore will come from one of a number of female restorers, regards, John.

Thanks Carol, appreciate the acknowledgement!  :-* :-*

Not sure Tony has received notifications as he's been online, but not responded.  Hopefully he will see them soon, as you are right, quite a bit of effort has been extended by myself and Tommy.
