Hi avotier,
Yes, I’m sorry, you are right in that Alice Voiter who married William Cowell is the same person as Alice Coell who married William Turner, and then went on to marry William Shimmings/Shemmings. I was far too hasty in posting my findings without cross referencing other websites! So far the following has been confirmed for your particular Alice Mary Votier:

1871 census Alice Mary Cowal living with her parents, recorded as married

Regarding the 1868 marriage for Alice M A Coell to William Hooper Nelson, Hastings, Sussex. Whilst freebmd has this marriage recorded as Coell, family search, and consequently Ancestry has it transcribed as William Hooper Nelson (born 1834) and Alice Mary Ann Cock (born 1846)!! Alice Mary Ann Cock/Coell’s father is recorded as William.
