Hi Kath, and welcome to Rootschat. can you provide the name of the ancestor and any census returns you have for them possibly with both surnames?

hi thanks for your  reply. the family name  is ainsworth but looking at census they have been called various names.
my great great great grandad was stephen ainsworth born 1936 in birmingham and on 1851 census was living as a nephew in birmingham st george  with charlotte platter as the head.
in  1861 he was living with his wife as eaton  in birmingham warwickshire.
previous to this he married a emma spilsbury 1841 but on wedding certificate he is down as ensor. they have various children some were registered as ensor some as ainsworths of which walter benjamin was my great greatgrandad. stephern died in 1877 at general hospital in summer lane birmingham and emma is down as ensor when she died in 1881. i am alsotryingtofind out information as i thinkthe youngest child was a albert ensor who lived in Cottage Homes for Pauper Children from the Birmingham Workhouse colshill. any information greatly recieed.
thanks again kath

Hi again on the 1861 with Stephen transcribed on my site as Eator and Emma looks on original to have 2 lodgers a Charles Niamath? b c 1835 and Ann, they could be the Charles Ainsworth 39 and Ann 37' but with son George in 1871 aged 15
1861 RG09/2165/32/8 1871 RG10/3124/111/22

PS their was a Stephen James Ainsworth b 24th November 1835 baptised 20th December 1835 St Thomas,  Birmingham,  also a Charles b 6th March 1832 baptised 25th August 1832 Father Stephen Mother Elizabeth

Also what father name and occupation of father does he give at marriage?

Yes sorry fir late reply. Yes these are Stephen and Charles. On marriage certificate Stephen dad is Stephen Ensor labouer. On birth  Stephen Ainsworth labourer I think. Also we think that Stephen mom was a Elizabeth guy . Nb you mentioned joseph earlier later in years he married Ann spilsbury who is in face Emma spilsbury mom with Stephen and Emma as witnesses .
