They appear to marry June qtr 1857 Newcastle-upon-Tyne Thomas Loggan to Mary Thompson

A Mary Loggan appears to marry a William Smith Sept qtr 1876 Newcastle-upon-Tyne 10b 252

So why if correct is George A a Stepchild?

Hi All in about 10 days I should have Charles Salkeld Robinson's final details- stuff that Ancestry does not seem able to supply.  In the meantime I have to check out George Albert Loraine-Smith I don't know if they ever met.
My grandfather Wilfrid Nield R******* died in 1934 he would have been some sort of cousin but I have not seen any sort of family history other than a list of engineers at the firm.

Hi again all, either the 1881 and my 1861/71 are incorrect as the George A L Smith on the 1881 aged 10 was registered and baptised as George Andrew Loggan, Dec qtr 1871  but it looks so right otherwise?!

Mike I don't know why you think Ancestry.com should be able to supply 'stuff'. All their data has come from other sources....they transcribe it into databases and people pay to access their website.

There are other resources you can use so trawl through some of the free resources available on rootschat boards.
