I think the word in question begins with St, not H. Googling produces one reference to Stauge Hill which apparently equates it with Storrs Hill.

I agree Arthur, the beginning of the first word doesn't resemble the 'H' in hill on the second word.

Many thanks.  I have found on another document Hauge Hill, Horbury.  So it was in the Horbury area not Ossett.

If you look at the H in Hill then the thought H or St -If it was an H as Hauge its completely different to the H in Hill as Libby says

I would say ST

BUT, there again - if the child's name is Hellen, then that H is not the same as the H in Hill  ::)  Someone wasn't consistent, were they?

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Hi Wildgoose

There is a very interest document here. Use Find to get references for Stauge Hill now known as Storrs Hill. There is also mention of a Giggal Hill. These places were/are between Ossett and Horbury.

This is a fascinating and well researched piece. Enjoy.
