Ralph William is buried in Mount Jerome Cemetery. I'd give them a shout and see who he is buried with. If he had a wife that looks like the best place to find her. Mary Bass is described as 'second daughter' of Joseph so there is an unaccounted for adult sister of Abel Bass.

Wow! I posted this last night and when I checked this morning there were no replies. But following all the activity today I think you've cracked it. Joseph Bass had (at least) 5 daughters and 2 sons (one of them Abel). According to my Bass tree these were: Elizabeth, Mary (married John Waller), Frances (married Jason Sherwood), Margaret (married Joseph Duncan), Thomas, Susanna (died in infancy) and Abel who married in England. Mary Amanda was baptized in England but when her mother died of cholera, her father brought her to his hometown of Dublin and had her baptized again at age 8. Elizabeth Bass must be the Eliza Champion of Denzille Street. It's a shame there were no early censuses because every other house on Denzille Street must have had a Bass or a Waller! I suspect he left Mary Amanda with his sister and her husband but then less than a year later, his sister died, leaving Ralph to look after Mary (with some help from his sister Harriet who survived him).  The only reservation I have is was Robert a brother of Ralph and if so did he marry Eliza? Yes that is my tree on Ancestry and that is Mary Amanda's husband (my great grandfather) in my avatar picture. Is Bass Place named after the Bass family? I suspect it is. I had a walk around Denzille Street, and the place where the Champion/Waller business was and its still derelict land so I don't know what happened after it was sold. The houses on Upper Erne Street which back onto it and were once owned by RWC looked OK though but I think I was too late to ask for some rent! Thank you RootsChatters, once again I'm amazed by your ingenuity and skill. Well done!

Hi There

At no point does there appear to be any mention of Ralph having a wife.

Did you spot that there was also a Richard Champion and a Robert Champion ~ I suppose Elizabeth could have been married to either of these chaps.

In saying that I did consider that given all the 'R' Christian names that it was possible that they were all pseudonyms of Ralph  :o

I would follow Hasta's suggestion of asking Mount Jerome for info on the Ralph William Champion grave.

Landej

So, was Ralph related to the Waller / Moller family whom had Le Champion in their name ?

In 1848 there is a Richard Champion at Christ Church Place & William Court.

Not sure if it's one and the same as Ralph's Richard though !
