Next time I am near Purewa cemetery I will take a wander and see if there is a headstone for Muriel

Cheers Janette

Wasn't she cremated? Wouldn't it be a plaque?

Yep but Purewa does have upright gravemarkers for some of the ashes plots.

As it happens area X is plaques but V has small upright polished stones

I'm guessing here, but I think E. H. Hopkins may have been:

Ernest Hambler Hopkins, died in New Zealand (1995), born 16.4.1899.

Minniehaha.

This eBay sale, ragged though it is, confirms that E H Hopkins of the Rangitana is indeed "Ernest Hambler Hopkins"

Oops - Muriel was (at least) his second wife:

I hope this is a separate person:

https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/Calendar?surname=hopkins&yearOfDeath=1947&page=3#calendar

(probate, 1947 Ernest Hambler Hopkins, died 12 Aug 1945)

Edit; may be OK, FreeBMD gave

Deaths Sep 1945
Hopkins    Ernest H    80    Surrey N.W.    2a   346

Edit; This b1865 person may well be Capt Hopkins' father.

From https://bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz

Death of wife:

1976/42084   Hopkins    Jean Yolande    27/3/1902   74Y

(marriage from FreeBMD

Marriages Jun 1939
Buckleton    Jean Y    Hopkins    Marylebone    1a   1601
Hopkins    Ernest H    Buckleton    Marylebone    1a   1601

)

Given Muriel died in 1978, the Hopkins/Gale marriage lasted at most 2 years.  :'(
