The GALE family vanish
« on: Monday 13 July 15 21:26 BST (UK) »
I would be glad of any help in finding out what happened to Thomas GALE and his family and more information on his parents.

I think he was born 1818 in Cornwood, Devon.
I am sure he married Jane FOX in 9 June 1844. His father was also Thomas from the marriage information.

In 1851 I find Thomas (1818) and Jane (1820) living in Egg Buckland with Elizabeth (1843), Mary Grace (1845), Emma J (1848) and Thomas H (1851).

In 1861 Census Thomas (1813) Jane (1812) are still in Egg Buckland with Emma (1848), Thomas(1851), William (1852), Joseph (1855) and Alice (1860).
There is another daughter Ellen (1857) who is living with Janes sister, Mary Chappel and her husband in Ugborough and lives with them even after she has married.

However, I cannot find any trace of the rest of the family from the 1861 census after that year. It is as if they have all disappeared!

I would welcome any thoughts or discoveries.

There's a Mary Grace Gale marriage in Plymouth dist Mar 1875.

Groom Cornelius Murphy or Henry Williams Parker
Other bride Sarah Susannah M Adams

Worth checking out even if to rule her out.
Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

I think Henry W Parker marries Mary Grace but in 1881 she is born Plymouth 1850.

Many thanks Milliepede for looking at this.

I did find what I think is Mary in the 1861 census. She is a servant with a family called Helyer. They are in Egg Buckland Village but her place of birth is given as Ivybridge which is quite close to Ugborough as given on all the census.

I am really not sure about that marriage giving her birth place as Plymouth.

Many thanks again for your thoughts on this ;).

Many thanks Clair,

I am sure that you are right. That places the youngest and the oldest daughters and I am sure that I know what happened to Ellen.

Hopefully we will find what happened to the rest.

Many thanks again for your interest in this,
Graham

Again many thanks Claire,

I have not found anything suggesting that Joseph is Joseph David but will keep looking.

I have found the marriage for Elizabeth in Tavistock 1865. She married a John Dawe. Her name is down as GILEs but I guess this is a transcription error.

Thanks for helping with this
