Thanks for your interest - I have this for 1841

Seaton, Camerton
John Scurr 35 Saddler Y
Margaret 25 Y
William 7 Y
John 5 Y
Jonathan 3 Y
George 1 mth Y
Ho 107/161 07 Page 12

which I'm fairy certain is the family I'm interested in.  The age of George does not tie in but it is not altogether unknown for transcription errors to occur in censuses.

Another SCURR family in 1861 has similarities (3937/6) and has a child called Margaret (mother's name in 1841).  The one that you found has occupation Saddler, which is good.

Perhaps one SCURR family was still in Seaton in 1851, rather than being in Workington (or IS Seaton Workington?)

I'd be grateful for any more guidance in the matter :)

Many thanks for your interest.  I don't think that one can be the right family despite John's profession.  The fact that George is an apprentice probably verifies his age as 15 which is not right for my lot.  I believe them to be-

SCURR William (1834-)
SCURR John (1836-)
SCURR Jonathan (1838-)
SCURR George (1841-)
SCURR Thomas (1844-)
SCURR George (1846-)
SCURR Mary (1850-)

I have the baptisms of all but Mary from the IGI.

In 1861, Thomas 16, George 14 and Mary 11 are living with their married brother John (Coal miner) in Seaton, the place of their birth, so I would have expected to find them there in 1851; thus the Workington family that I asked for and which you found for me unfortunately appears to be the wrong one.  :-[

Geoff

I am doing a one-name study on the name SCURR, have heaps of info, maybe we can help each other. Is it George you are interested in or one of the others in this family.
George married Sarah Jane Stephenson in 1868 and had 8 children. His parents were John Scurr & Margaret Braithwaite.

SCURR / SCURRE / SKURR / SKURRE Anywhere, Any date. One Name Study
