marrige locator
« on: Wednesday 15 July 15 14:07 BST (UK) »
Has anyone used this site?

http://www.marriage-locator.co.uk/

I've put in several marriages that I know where they took place because I have the certs, into the search. But it either comes up that they don't have the record, or tell me it is within a range of districts (not just the single district which I already know).

The earliest I have tried is 1870 and the latest 1941.
Not had any success at all.
Berks / Oxon: Eltham, Annetts, Wiltshire (surname not county), Hawkins, Pembroke, Partridge
Dorset / Hants: Derham, Stride, Purkiss, Sibley
Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge
Sussex: Goodyer, Christopher, Trevatt
Lanark: Scott (soldier went to Jersey CI)
Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott

The bulk of the entries are from Anglican parish records so won't include Catholic, non-conformist, Jewish, Quaker or register offices.

It is also mainly focused on East London and they only have 465,000 entries so just a tiny amount when you see how many marriages there are per year.

click on the link to 'Principles' at the bottom of the screen for more info.

I didn't realize it was still very much in the early stages of development.

So I suppose if anyone has a cert for a C of E church  marriage which took place on the first or last day of a quarter, it would help the compilers if they sent the details in to them. I'll have to look through mine.

The site's been around for many years. I don't think it grows at all.
