Not sure why it would be changed to D drive  ???

It all started when I built a new 6-core AMD  ... MS wouldnt let me reuse a WIN7 upgrade DVD I'd got 3 years ago to upgrade from VISTA.

I tried to do a clean install of WIN 7 from that DVD onto new PC's new SSD, and it wouldnt recognise the Product Key, so I couldnt Activate it ...

... so I started again by installing the old VISTA, and then used that WIN 7 DVD on that base to take it up to WIN 7  ..... worked fine, but had left VISTA on 'C', and WIN 7 became 'D'

So now I didnt build an ISO to do a clean install of WIN 10, by installing it on top of the WIN 7, its kept D as SysRes.....

I'll have a fiddle later - its not an issue, just looks odd after so many years of 'C' ...

For the benefit of anyone who hasn't got there yet, even if you do the manual download and create an installation DVD, you MUST do the installation from within your existing Windows 7/8.1 system to qualify for the free upgrade. Once you have it working and it has registered itself with Microsoft you can do a clean re-install from the DVD if necessary but only on the same device.

Well, I think I got that right, but best check it out to be sure  :-\

I intended to delay the upgrade to let some of the bugs to be shaken out. Looks like there are other bugs with the installation too.

Still nothing perfect!
Just done a manual update on my wife's laptop, first stage 2hrs (ended up pressing exit) then 1hr doing the update.
All ended up pear shape, my wife and her love of fb will now have to wait till morning to do a restore.

Oh dear, still can't change my desktop picture.

Lizzie, I went into Control Panel - Personalisation but couldn't find 'Change Desktop Picture', just Change Screen Saver, or are they one & the same?

Fed up trying to do the simplest task.

Oh dear my family tree legends programme will not work  :'(
Too old I guess.  I regularly back it up but can the info be imported into a different programme that is windows 10 compatible?

Barbara,

When you go into Personalisation you need to select 'Background'. This is what used to be Desktop. In there you can select a single picture (browse to what you want), a coloured background or a slideshow (a selection of pictures that continually change).

If you are still having problems the "old" way you initially described of right clicking on an image and setting it as your desktop still works in W10 ..... its the third option down
