An email to the RIF Museum might be worth doing although I note they charge £28 for what they call "historical enquiries!".  Also, Google "Royal Irish Fusiliers bibliography" and that brings up a short list of books, including the early one mentioned.

Thank you Max; earliest known enlistment of a direct ancestor into the 87th was in 1837 aged 24, so the book will be useful. His son enlisted in the 87th in 1864 aged 18.
