Could the postcard have been sent by a soldier on foreign service?

It could be Egypt or India?

I wonder if we can discount Egypt, because it doesn't have an oceanic coastline - to the north is the Mediterranean Sea and to the east is the Red Sea.  But that is dependent upon the correspondent being accurate when they talked about "the ocean"  :-\

Hard to say.  The card is signed off with just initials CH and it has been sent to Mrs J? Hounsom in Tonbridge…so I guess we could have a look at military records for a Hounsom from Kent.

Here's the back if anyone is interested in seeing it.

There is a John Hounsom in Leigh, Tonbridge on the 1911 census.  looks like he has quite a few children - will see if one matches up.

There is also a Chas Hounsom going out to the US as a valet in 1913.......

Pretty sure the card is dated 1916 unless someone with better eyes can make it out to be something else.  Wonder where Chas was in 1916.

The Chas/Charles Hounsom was definitely the son of John Hounsom, so if we can follow him on his manservant/valet travels.......

By 1917 (WW1 draft registration), Chas was a bakery store keeper (175 Jefferson Ave, Brooklyn I think)
