Both signed with an X.

From the census, Benjamin was born at Madeley (Shropshire) and Sophia in Birmingham (Warwickshire). And the year of birth going from 1811 to 1819, but most probably being 1816 since that is what they stated in the 1841 census...

[Note: I still think that a person who didn't know how to read, would not know his/her age... Any ideas on this subject would be appreciated].

By the way, they also lived at High Street, Sedgley: at number 38 in 1871, and at number 120 in 1881.

Can anyone find the baptism of either Benjamin Poole or Sophia Whitehouse?

Remember ages are rounded in the 1841 census down to the nearest 5 (thats why you see lots of years of birth in the transcrptions ending in a 1 or a 6, because the ages given end in  a 5 or a 0)

So that is the least reliable census for years of birth.

If the couple married in 1833, they are unlikely to have been born after 1817.

Sophia POOLE died MAR qtr. 1884 DUDLEY, aged 73;

another 2 deaths I've found are:
Phebe POOLE died SEP qtr. 1845 DUDLEY, aprox. age 6;
ELIZA POOLE died MAR qtr. 1865 DUDLEY, aprox. age 8.
(both were daughters of Benjamin and Sophia)
