young soldier....regiment? please

Please can you help with this very young soldier. Poor original small photo, creased. Have done the best I can, pure snapshotter...

Would love to know if you could enhance the badge that hangs on his tunic. may give me help towards finding his age and regiment. Thank you in advance.

I think the "badge" is part of a watch chain rather like an Albert, difficult to ascertain any other info,
He could be Australian with the slouch hat, though British soldiers sometimes wore them. The button looks like a standard Royal Cypher button, lion unicorn and crown, It does like like a blurred Prince of Wales feathers, but I am sure it is standard button, any other clues on reverse of pic?

Guess British, photographer Wilson & Sons, 95 Harrow Road Paddington Green.

No handwritten info. Have researched photographer, Wilson.....William George died 1905  1901census shows living at that address.

It would most likely be a generic button used by lots of regimets, others specific regiments like those within the Brigade of Guards would use their own cypher on the button,

I wonder if he has been or is going to South Africa (Boer War)

Having done a bit of searching on Google I would suggest your man is a British soldier and the date would be around 1900. strange there are no breast pockets on the tunic.

Alternately ask the Mod to transfer to Armed Forces Boards

After your posts, sat back and thought hard. Then tried another free site, bingo, identical uniform /  Hat.
Now to find out who he is (was)...never ending!!!!!
