Perhaps Alfred is the son of Mary Ann.  Son in law often refers to step son (John was head so he would be his step son but Mary's son)

It just so happens that on the 1871 census, there is a John F Jones lodging with the family.
Mary Ann is a servant in Tydd St Giles aged only 17, so a young girl of 15 when she gave birth, if she is the mother. Alfreds birth certificate needed me thinks.....
It appears Mary Ann only mentions one child born alive...she may of course ,meant within her marriage.

John Tinuley is the way it is spelt on the GRO index I checked the copy on freebmd, it may be a 'typo' though
