A widow's maiden name
« on: Wednesday 21 July 04 15:30 BST (UK) »
Widow Mary Rothwell married a James Booth in 1830 at Preston, Lancashire.
I looked for a death of a Rothwell between 1811-1830 & found only one in Preston that looks interesting.
"James Rothwell died 1825, son-in-law of Jennet Rawlinson."

An Ellen Rawlinson was a witness at the marriage of Mary & James Booth & on the IGI a Jennet & Thomas Rawlinson had daughters Mary & Ellen.

There is also a marriage of a Mary Rowlandson & James Rothwell in 1818 at Chorley.
Children: Ann, Mary & Elizabeth...all bapt'd at Bolton-Le-Moors.

I've also looked for a will of Mary Booth to see if any children to her first marriage are named..but couldn't find one.

Can anyone think of anything else I can look for to find a link between Mary Rothwell & Mary Booth.

Many Thanks
Liz

Hi Liz,

The facts do seem pretty convincing, don't they.

Have you found Mary and James Booth on the 1841 census to check if any children from her first marriage were living with them?

Also, did Mary and James Booth have any children post July 1837 who may have birth certificates?  As I understand it a widow married under her previous married name, but on a birth certificate of a subsequent child gave her new married name and maiden name, which would help identify her.

Hope this is some help.
Regards,
Sasha.

Hello Sasha

Thank you so much for your reply.

Yes...I had a look on the 1841, but no children shown to her first husband.
Her second brood born 1830, 1832, 1834 & 1836.

I'm sure she'll continue to drive me nuts for years to come!!

Best wishes
Liz
